Soft reboot for a hard landing.

---

This is Interoperable, a many-year-old project by Tyler Dickey (me, using my actual meat fingers to type this) that’s just been migrated to MY OWN SHIT (a data centre (boo!) in Germany (indifferent?)). Things will be up and running here shortly, but you can [subscribe](#/portal/) in the meantime if you’d like to stay up to date and receive emails when new content is published! (Thank you kindly if already onboard! Sorry, no drinks or snacks on this flight.)

Email, as our oldest known form of communication, is wrought with idiosyncrasies, so if anything seems off, please let the author know.

##
Housekeeping notes / FAQs

**Q:** What is Interoperable?

**A:** You are reading it. **A(Long):** I feel a gravitational pull to engage in internet self-publishing. It is catnip for anyone who ever made a [Hypercard](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HyperCard?ref=interoperable.tylerdickey.com) stack, played [Zoombinis](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zoombinis?ref=interoperable.tylerdickey.com), or thought filling out the templates in Microsoft Word 97 for “my business” was a normal thing for an 8-year-old to do for fun. There are also lots of moral and therapeutic reasons why I want to post on the internet while not engaging with an algorithmic platform managed by death-cult-billionaires. I like having readers, and I like bringing you nice things. Humanity, I do it because I have faith in it somehow?

**Q:** Why did you migrate it to a different server/self-host it?

**A:** It turns out that the previous platform’s co-owner and CTO made some blog posts that I don’t agree with (I’d call them racist, but that’s just like my opinion, man). So I’m voting with my wallet and migrating to a different platform called [Ghost](https://ghost.org/?ref=interoperable.tylerdickey.com), which I’m self-hosting on a server run by a company called [Hetzner](https://www.hetzner.com/?ref=interoperable.tylerdickey.com). As far as I can tell, the Ghost people (like actual ghosts) are pretty cool and mean no harm, and the Hetzner folks seem to have decent values for data centre people in the year of our LORD 2026\. I’m also on a bit of a self-aggrandising data sovereignty kick at the moment with the whole “fascism is here” thing going on in the US. The sun will rise tomorrow.

**Q:** Do you still think about Subway’s five-dollar footlongs?

**A:** Yes. Every day.

**Q:** There seems to be a lot of sadness behind your eyes when you talk about Subway’s five-dollar footlongs.

**A:** Yes. Can we please talk about something else?

**Q:** What about your website?

**A:** Still there. [tylerdickey.com](https://www.tylerdickey.com/?ref=interoperable.tylerdickey.com), I'm particularly proud of my [Resources for creative people](https://www.tylerdickey.com/resources.php?ref=interoperable.tylerdickey.com) and [Telephony Reference](https://www.tylerdickey.com/telephony.php?ref=interoperable.tylerdickey.com) pages

**Q:** Nice website, dork.

**A:** Thanks, I guess. Though that’s not really a question, and I think you’re just trying to hurt my feelings, but then again you’re a made-up hypothetical person who exists only on this page as a literary device to deliver information in a recognisable format.

**Q:** … **A:** I thought so.
